Objective : This study aims to determine the current occupational therapists` caregiver education status and to determine problems reported about the caregiver education and the need for caregiver education by the occupational therapists in Busan and Gyoungnam area.
Methods: Questionnaire was made and tested two times on occupational therapy graduate students at Inje University to determine reliability of the questionnaire. Then 130 questionnaires were mailed out to occupational therapists working in major hospitals in Busan and Gyoungnam areas. 91 completed questionnaires were returned and analyzed.
Results: The study revealed that although most occupational therapists know the importance and the need for caregiver education, it does not take place due to lack of time, cooperation by the caregivers, and therapists` clinical knowledge
Conclusion: Occupational therapists are not satisfied with the current level of caregiver education as although they are aware of the importance and the need for the caregiver education, it is not possible to carry it out. Therefore in order for the therapists to carry out caregiver education successfully the following points may be considered; the patients` and the caregivers` awareness of the caregiver education, decrease in productivity and a separate time allocation for caregiver education.
